Yes, "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" has been canceled. Some people are defending the decision on economic grounds, but then Colbert has the best ratings of late night. I guess it's possible late night as an institution is dying -- I myself watch a number of the late night shows on YouTube the next day, because staying up past 11pm is for the young -- but if so it's dying in a weird way -- because lots of people are watching them on YouTube the next day. Most people seem pretty sure the cancellation is political, given that it was announced literally days after Colbert called Paramount's donation to Trump a "big fat bribe". Plus CBS was recently bought by Larry Ellison as a toy for his eminently punchable son David and Larry is a big Trump supporter, because of course he is, because these Rands don't Ayn themselves, you know.

I'm sure Steve will land on his feet somewhere. He's too good not to. Maybe he'll start a new show on YouTube with an entirely different character, like a hippie or something. I'm sure it'll be fun.
